PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE

Local Disabled Americans Veterans Auxiliary receive Special Americanism award

DAV State Commander Wilson Miller accepted an award for Fort Sherman, Chapter 9, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, at the National Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia last week. Members of the local DAV Auxiliary were commended for their year- long efforts to encourage voting, to encourage the display of the American Flag and sponsored essays on Americanism. Members participated in numerous patriotic parades and memorial services. Some members helped support and coordinate Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. One member is in charge of the regional Quilts of Valor Program monthly sewing events and presentations. Two members serve on the County Veterans Council which coordinates veteran assistance and veteran recognition events in the county. Additional members, in conjunction with the local Daughters of the American Revolution organized events recognizing the end of the Vietnam War.
Unit Commander, Marilyn Hunt, Commander, U.S. Navy, (retired), stated that, “unit  members are involved in so many veterans support activities, such as school assemblies, picnics, town halls, purchasing the DAV Van, legislative issues, support of the Veteran’s home in Lewiston, that is can make your head spin.” “There is no doubt that the Auxiliary has the full support of the Chapter and the people in Kootenai County,” according to State Commander Wilson Miller. “They just shine and are a credit to everyone and that glow was visible all the way to Atlanta,” Commander Miller stated.
